In The Fantasticks, two fathers put up a wall between their houses to bring their children together, because the fathers know that children will always do the opposite of what their parents want. However, after the children fall in love, they grow dissatisfied and turn from each other to a quest for romance and adventure. Unexpected hardship and disappointment along the way show them that reality is not a child's imagination, and what is truly valuable is what they left behind.

The original production of The Fantasticks ran for 17,162 performances over a period of 42 years, making it the world's longest-running musical. The simple and charming story and hummable music, led by its most familiar song, "Try to Remember," make it a perennial favorite for all ages.
